26/01/2010

In 2010, International Year of Biodiversity, the European Environment Agency (EEA) has published a geographic information viewer with the purpose of making all areas of the Natura 2000 network available to all Europeans.

Bilbomática has developed the software for this project, from the data base production for all Europe to the deployment of a web application integrating GIS Technologies which provide the final user with a great experience. This application is available in Internet, from the beginning of 2010 in this address: http://natura2000.eea.europa.eu/.

Natura 2000 is an ecological network of biodiversity conservation areas. It is made up by Special Conservation Areas named in compliance with the Habitat Directive, together with Special Protection Areas for Birds, which have been established in compliance with the Birds Directive. Its aim is to grant survival in the long term of the species and habitats which are most threatened in Europe, avoiding the lost of biodiversity, which is taking place sourced by the adverse impact of human activities. The network is a key instrument for nature conservation in the European Union.
