" The Cancer Mission is included within the Horizon Europe framework and is part of a group of five missions adopted by the European Commission on September 29. EU missions are a new way of providing concrete solutions to some of our greatest challenges."
The Cancer Mission aims to improve the lives of more than 3 million people by 2030 through better prevention, treatment, and quality of life. It will be implemented both through a dedicated Missions Work Programme and through other Horizon Europe calls for proposals, with a particular focus on the Health Cluster Work Programme, Infrastructure, and calls from the European Research Council (ERC), the European Innovation Council (EIC), and others. Furthermore, there will be clear synergies with other European programs such as EU4Health and Digital Europe, among others, and with all types of national and European funding.
On December 15, the 2021 update to the 2021-2022 Work Programme was adopted, which includes three new topics for the Cancer Mission, directly related to the Mission's Implementation Plan. It is important to understand this Implementation Plan, as it details the planned future actions, specifying the actors responsible for implementation and the anticipated funding sources .
